Knitting
The Shabby Sheep

Move over, Grandma. Knitting doesn’t have to be just for the over-60 crowd. Whether you’re starting out or making your own socks using knit-one-purl-two, the experts at The Shabby Sheep will welcome you into their knitting circle at Upper Greenville’s Union Coffee House. They’ll help you strategize how to complete your dream project or simply get out of a knit-and-needle dilemma. Every Wednesday, noon to 2 pm. Cost: $10 an hour

Calligraphy
Pretty In Ink Calligraphy
Get personalized instruction from Ashley Stewart, who has been practicing the art of calligraphy since 2009. (Some of her past clients include Neiman Marcus, Chanel, and Carolina Herrera. Full disclosure: her husband works at D Magazine.) Her introductory classes are intended for those who have never picked up a pointed pen, and students learn how to write lowercase letters and numbers while receiving individualized help. January 15, 6:30 pm. Cost: $150

Flower Arranging
Dirt Design Studio
Roll up your sleeves and prepare to put Martha to shame. At Bishop Arts’ floral source, Dirt, Sonya Eudaley teaches students the principles of floral design, the basics of flower handling, and how to compose an arrangement using all in-season flowers. Bonus: you’ll take home an arrangement so inspiring that you’ll want to throw a party to show off your handiwork. This is one skill you can use again and again. January 18, 5 pm. Cost: $147
